More travel info

By train (NS)

A great idea, because on race day large parts of the city will be closed to traffic. Train stations Rotterdam Centraal and Rotterdam Blaak are both within walking distance of the event location and the Marathon Sport Expo.

OV-Chipkaart
There is no separate OV-chipkaart for foreigners. As a foreigner you will purchase an anonymous OV-chipkaart or a disposable OV-chipkaart. You will purchase either card at the counter for a public transport company, the device at the station, at a newsagent or at a supermarket. Click here to read more about an OV-chipkaart.

NS Ticket
You can also purchase a NS ticket in the form of an E-ticket. That is quick and easy and means you don't have to queue at the ticket machine.

Maintenance work
On Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of April, maintenance rail work is scheduled at Leiden Centraal station. Participants and spectators travelling from Leiden can take the NS-bus to The Hague Centraal and from there you can get on a Sprinter (every half an hour) or Intercity (every 15 minutes) to Rotterdam Centraal. The extra travel time may be up to 15-30 minutes.

Participants and spectators travelling from Noord-Holland (stations Haarlem, Schiphol or Amsterdam) are advised to avoid Leiden Centraal station. You can take either the Intercity Direct (extra fee will be charged) or travel via Utrecht Centraal to go to Rotterdam Centraal. The extra travel time may be up to 30-45 minutes.

Please keep in mind due to the NN Marathon Rotterdam trains can be crowded. Check the travel planner or download the travel planner app 10 days in advance.

Do you participate in the NN Marathon Rotterdam on the 6th or 7th of April or are you going to encourage family, friends or colleagues? Then come by train and enjoy a delicious freshly prepared pasta at Julia's at Rotterdam Central afterwards. This beautiful offer including a train trip is on sale from the 11th of March for only €19,- via the website.

By metro (RET)

A great idea, because on race day large parts of the city will be closed to traffic. Metro stations Centraal Station, Beurs and Blaak are within walking distance of the event location and the Marathon Sport Expo.

RET Day pass
You can also purcahse a 1 day RET pass from RET Webshop (Dutch), Rotterdam The Hague Airport or RET Service Points. Click here to read more about the RET Day pass.

By car

Not a good idea, because on race day large parts of the city will be closed to traffic and limited parking spaces are available. We kindly ask you to come with public transportation. You can drive to a P+R (Park & Ride) parking lot just outside Rotterdam city centre, provided that you use public transport. The P+R areas in Rotterdam are always located at a bus or metro station and you are in downtown Rotterdam within a couple of minutes without any traffic jams.
