General info
The 41st NN Marathon Rotterdam takes place in the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April. The world’s top athletes as well as thousands of runners from home and abroad get to experience what it’s like to finish on the renowned Coolsingel; it’s a marathon weekend that combines top sporting action with a festival feel. No other marathon in the Netherlands can match the Rotterdam atmosphere, with more than 925,000 enthusiastic spectators along the course.
During its year history, the NN Marathon Rotterdam has produced three world records (Carlos Lopes, Belayneh Densamo and Tegla Loroupe). But these were not the only times when the course in Rotterdam has proved its speed. In 2009, Rotterdam experienced a whirlwind finish between Duncan Kibet and James Kwambai, both clocked a time of 2:04:27, the world's fastest marathon time of 2009! During the jubilee edition in 2010 the Kenyan Patrick Makau won in the best world-season time of 02.04.48. In 2011, Wilson Chebet won the race in another top time of 02.05.27.
The NN Kids Runs were also introduced in 2011. This section not only has huge growth potential, but it makes the marathon festival a two-day event, because it takes place on the Saturday before the marathon. The marathon weekend is a wonderful blend of (top) sport and festival. No other marathon in the Netherlands can match the atmosphere in Rotterdam.
