Complete Jubilee Race Podium Back At The Start

Marius Kipserem, sensational winner in 2016 and 2019, returns to the NN Marathon Rotterdam with big plans. On Sunday 10th April, the Kenyan top athlete wants to reclaim the parcours record, which he lost to Belgium’s Bashir Abdi last year.

Three years ago, Kipserem (33) triumphed in impressive fashion at the Coolsingel. After 35 kilometres, he broke off from the pack and finished unthreatened with a parcours record of 2.04.11. Abdi Nageeye improved his Dutch record to 2.06.17 in that same memorable race.

Kipserem also triumphed in Rotterdam in 2016, where he literally and figuratively stepped out of the shadow of the favourites as an outsider. His time of 2.06.11 was also a personal best at the time. In 2018, he finished fifth in 2.07.22.

Three months ago, on 24th October, Kipserem lost his parcours record to Bashir Abdi during a marathon of superlatives. Under loud cheers, the Belgian crossed the finish first in a European record of 2.03.36, this being the fastest time run ever in The Netherlands. Kipserem emulated his personal record, but had to reconcile himself with second place (2.04.04).

For his fifth appearance at the NN Marathon Rotterdam, Kipserem is looking to make a comeback: victory, a PR and parcours record!  In order to do so, he will have to take care of the Olympic top duo ‘Abdi & Abdi’, amongst others. Best pals Abdi Nageeye and Bashir Abdi divvied up silver and bronze at the Tokyo Olympics after a blood-curdling finale, in which Nageeye gave everybody goosebumps when he thrillingly piloted his training buddy to third place.

Dawit Wolde (30) will complete the line-up of the podium of the spectacular 40th NN Marathon Rotterdam by also appearing on 10 April. In October, the Ethiopian finished third behind Bashir Abdi and Marius Kipserem in a personal record of 2.04.27.

The fifth top athlete to feature at the NN Marathon Rotterdam is Kiprop Reuben Kipyego (25). The Kenyan has a personal record of 2.03.55. Kipyego wants to beat that time at the Coolsingel.
